Entecavir Tablets

Overview X-VIR is used for:

• X-VIR is used to treat long-term hepatitis B infection. Hepatitis B is an infection of the liver caused by the hepatitis B virus. Long-term infection can cause liver damage, rarely liver cancer, and liver failure. IN X-vir Entecavir salt is used, Entecavir helps to decrease the amount of hepatitis B virus in your body. It is unknown if this medication lowers your chance of getting liver cancer or liver damage. Entecavir is an antiviral that belongs to a class of drugs known as hepatitis B virus nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitors.
• Entecavir is not a cure for hepatitis B. It does not prevent the spread of the virus to others through  contact or blood/body fluid contamination (such as sharing used needles).
• Treating HBV infection in certain patients.
• Entecavir is a nucleoside analogue. It works by reducing the amount of HBV in the blood. It also helps prevent the HBV from multiplying and infecting new liver cells.

Do NOT use entecavir if:

• You are allergic to any ingredient in entecavir
• You have HIV infection and you are not receiving HAART
• Contact your doctor or health care provider right away if any of these apply to you.

Important safety information:

• Entecavir may cause dizziness. These effects may be worse if you take it with alcohol or certain medicines. Use entecavir with caution. Do not drive or perform other possibly unsafe tasks until you know how you react to it.
• Entecavir does not stop you from spreading HBV to others through contact, sharing needles, or being exposed to your blood. Use barrier methods of birth control (eg, ) if you have HBV infection. Talk with your doctor about safe practices that protect your partner. Never share needles or other injection supplies. Do not share personal items that may have blood or body fluids on them, like toothbrushes or razors. A vaccine is available to protect people at risk from becoming infected with HBV.
• Do not change your dose without checking with your doctor.
• Entecavir is not a cure for HBV infection. Remain under the care of your doctor.
• When your medicine supply is low, get more from your doctor or pharmacist as soon as you can. Do not stop taking entecavir, even for a short period of time. If you do, the virus may grow resistant to the medicine and become harder to treat.
• LAB TESTS, including liver and kidney function and HIV and HBV antibody, may be performed while you use entecavir and for several months after you stop entecavir. These tests may be used to monitor your condition or check for side effects. Be sure to keep all doctor and lab appointments.
• Use entecavir with caution in the  Elderly; they may be more sensitive to its effects.
• Pregnancy And Breast-feeding: If you become pregnant, contact your doctor. You will need to discuss the benefits and risks of taking entecavir while you are pregnant. It is not known if this medicine is found in breast milk. Do not breast-feed while taking entecavir.

Cronivir 0.5 mg tablet is an antiviral drug and belongs to a class of drugs called synthetic nucleoside analogs. It works by blocking the DNA synthesis in hepatitis B virus, a process essential for the virus to grow and multiply. Cronivir 0.5 mg tablet thus stops the virus from spreading in the body. It does not prevent the spread of HBV infections to other people.Entecavir, a guanosine nucleoside analog, is a potent and selective inhibitor of hepatitis B virus replication with around 94% patients continuing to remain HBV DNA undetectable and 80% patients with normalization of liver enzymes at the end of 5 years of continuous entecavir therapy. Entecavir resistance is rare in nucleoside-naïve patients, around 1.2% after 5-6 years of treatment. It is recommended as a first-line treatment for lamivudine-naïve chronic hepatitis B patients.

Uses:

• Cronivir 0.5 mg tablet is used in the treatment of HIV infection and chronic hepatitis B.For patients with compensated liver disease due to chronic hepatitis B virus infection, the recommended dose of entecavir in nucleoside treatment-naïve adults and adolescents 16 years of age and older is 0.5 mg once daily whereas in adults and adolescents (at least 16 years of age) with a history of hepatitis B viremia while receiving lamivudine or known lamivudine or telbivudine resistance mutations rtM204I/V with or without rtL180M, rtL80I/V, or rtV173L the dose is 1 mg once daily.

How it works:

• Cronivir 0.5 mg tablet prevents the multiplication of HIV virus in human cells. Thus stops the HIV virus from producing new viruses.
• For adult patients with decompensated liver disease due to chronic hepatitis B virus infection, the recommended dose of entecavir is once daily, and dose adjustment is recommended for patients with creatinine clearance below 50 mL / min, including hemodialysis or continuous non-period Bedridden peritoneal dialysis patients (CAPD). The optimal treatment time for entecavir in patients with chronic hepatitis B virus infection and the relationship between treatment and long-term efficacy such as cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma are unclear.  

Common Side Effects: 

• Nausea, rash, allergic reactions, dizziness, hair loss, headache, indigestion, vomiting, fatigue, hepatitis B (virus-infected liver) worsen, lactic acidosis. 

• Do not stop taking entecavir without the doctor's advice. Entecavir should be taken on an empty stomach. Please follow your doctor's instructions. Before taking entecavir, please consult your doctor if you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant. If you are breastfeeding, please consult your doctor before taking entecavir. Do not drive or operate the machine if you experience dizziness, tiredness or drowsiness after taking entecavir. Hepatitis B may worsen after taking entecavir and stopping the drug. Liver function tests must be performed after treatment and withdrawal. If you have an AIDS or HIV (human immunodeficiency virus) infection, talk to your doctor before taking entecavir. Patients with suspected entecavir should be tested for HIV. Report symptoms of nausea, vomiting and stomach pain to your doctor immediately. This may indicate that the life-threatening side effects of entecavir are called lactic acidosis (excessive lactic acid in the blood). The incidence of lactic acidosis in women is higher, especially if the body weight exceeds the standard.
